NGCC Summer Coding Camp 2021
Newburgh Girls Code Club (NGCC) Immersive Summer Code Camp was a 2-week intensive in-person & virtual coding bootcamp, designed to foster youth leadership development & STEAM learning opportunities, and to close the gender gap in tech.
Tech & Collaboration
Over 11 days, we explored how Coding and Computer Science can change the world in a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. We learned how to code and build websites with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, using the fun and collaborative coding platform: Glitch. We designed some interactive arts using interactive JavaScript tutorials with VidCode. We practiced problem solving and debugging, as well as a hip-hop dancing! It was a fun experience for all of us — everybody got to learn new things and make new friends!
Mindfulness, Empowerment & Leadership
We practiced mindfulness and engaged in empowerment workshops. We practiced stand ups and showing up for each other. We learned to be brave, be bold, and be authentic while being supportive. It was so much fun working together as a group, learning from each other as well as from our mentors.
All-Around Awesomeness
We talked a lot, we coded a lot, we laughed a lot, we learned new things about ourselves. All together, these two weeks were a life changing experience for all, empowering through problem solving in a collaborative and safe environment.
